I apologise i haven't blogged in a while i get in front of my laptop and literally have writers block. I have found it harder to write anything but this all changed when i read if i stay. I felt compelled to write.
The cover that i have is a mix of greens and yellows. I find this ironic that when i think of yellow I think of happiness and joy when this book has hints of tones of it but isn't overly happy. The green automatically makes me think of the freedom Mia has to make her own choice. On the cover the picture seems out of focus hardly anything is straight cut and clear, this leads me to belive that we are meant to be seeing the cover from Mia's view of the world when she is in her coma.
I had a personal connection with this book I haven't been in a life or death situation personally but i have lost a loved one. So I did relate to Mia's prospective however she did lose her mum, dad and little brother so I can't even to begin to imagine the pain. I really connected with her Granddad in a scene when he say's it's okay to let go. This and right at the end where the only parts where i teared up (close to crying).
Gayle Forman is a literary genius. The way she winds her past and present making a spiders web of emotions, memories and the eeriness that all in all she had a somewhat normal life. This story is a thoughtful telling of Mia's life up to the point where she has to make a choice. If she stays in this life or if she should depart with the rest of her close family.
As i mentioned before this book is a web of her life. The first 10 pages is before the accident where we get a quick glimpse of her life then after the accident she has flashbacks. Her life literally flashes before her eyes. These flashbacks gave more depth to the book and characters because you get to see what life for them was like before and what life is like (if they're still alive) afterwards. These flashbacks made this book in my opinion: it made me the cynical teenager believe that there is always hope, love and friendship from Kim's and Adam.
I loved Kim's charecter because she is the same as Mia but the exact opposite to Adam so they clash often but when it comes to it she is a strong enough person to put aside her differences and help him.Adam what can I say? Opposites defiantly attract as proven with Mia and Adam. They are such a sweet couple and you can tell that they love each other intimately.
The flashbacks with her family teared me up. Her mum and dad's quirky sense of style, attitude and parenting skills make them lovable people which makes the fact they're dead quite tragic. I loved how Gayle Forman did this with the plot line; it made you wish that they weren't dead. This is the whole point of the book though. It's a thought provoking novel of is life worth the hurt.
I recommend this book to friends its the first one I have read like this and I sure as hell hope it wasn't the last. It isn't one of my favorite books and I can't put my finger on why however I think it is a worthy read.
